Lath and Plaster

A Trade Magazine for The Plastering Industry Run by Plasterers for Plasterers

Winter Gardens Project

By Colin Morris

Colin, a master plasterer, was commissioned to carry out restoration work on a circular column at the Winter Gardens Theatre in Blackpool.

The project involved carefully removing the damaged plasterwork and forming a new column in situ to replicate the original design. Traditional techniques were employed to ensure historical accuracy, and the work was completed to an exceptional standard.

Working within a live theatre environment required meticulous planning and coordination around scheduled events and performances. Special attention was paid to protecting the surrounding areas—sheeting up carpets and seating to prevent any damage.

Dust control and site cleanliness were strictly maintained, with regular inspections carried out to safeguard the historic fabric of the building. Each stage of the restoration was documented to meet conservation requirements. Colin’s craftsmanship and attention to detail were praised by project supervisors and theatre management alike, contributing significantly to the preservation of one of Blackpool’s most iconic heritage venues.
