The NAPL stands for the National Association of Plastering Lecturers. The NAPL was the brainchild of the late Mr Denis Crook, a passionate plastering lecturer at Accrington College, who had a clear and forward-thinking idea to bring plastering lecturers together from across the United Kingdom to share knowledge, expertise, and resources. So, in 2004, the NAPL was born at Accrington College. Colleges in attendance at that first meeting included Accrington, Burnley, Bolton, and Manchester. Meetings were initially planned to be held up to three times a year and were supported by department heads, with participation classed as Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
As the NAPL continued to grow and gain momentum, meetings began to be hosted by different member colleges across the country. A chairman and a communication secretary were subsequently voted in by majority vote, with each serving for two years in their respective roles. Both the chairman and the communication secretary carry a significant and challenging voluntary workload alongside their normal teaching responsibilities. This reflects their deep commitment to advancing plastering education. Since its launch, the NAPL has gone from strength to strength, with an ever-increasing number of colleges participating, helping to raise standards and foster collaboration across the sector.
