My inspiration to pursue a career in plastering came from my passion for creativity and the satisfaction of seeing a project come together. The ability to transform a space and witness the final outcome was incredibly appealing. Additionally, I was motivated by the fact that plastering was a predominantly male industry at the time, and I wanted to challenge the norm and establish myself in the field.
I started working in the trade at the age of 28, which was a bit later in life compared to others in the industry. Now, at 35, I have gained extensive experience and developed my skills to a high standard. My training took place in Devon and Cornwall, where I began as a labourer. As I gained more hands-on experience, I decided to take on my own jobs and work with different contractors, which helped me build a strong foundation in the trade.

Although I did not attend college, I would have loved to have had the opportunity. However, due to my age and lack of funding, pursuing a formal college course was not feasible for me. Despite this, I have developed my skills through practical experience and on-the-job learning. Although I have not achieved formal qualifications, I would have liked to obtain an NVQ in plastering, and it remains something I may pursue in the future.
I have now been working in the plastering trade for seven years. During this time, I have refined my skills, taken on a variety of projects, and built a strong client base. While I do not currently employ apprentices or trainees, I have been considering taking on an apprentice in the near future. I believe that mentoring a young professional would be a rewarding experience and a great way to pass on my knowledge.
My specialist skills include creativity and having a keen eye for detail. I take great pride in my work and ensure that every project is completed to the highest standard. My ability to visualize the final result and execute it effectively is something that sets me apart in the industry.

Looking ahead, my goals in the plastering industry include expanding my client base, taking on more exciting projects, and specializing further in Venetian plaster techniques. I am also eager to continue learning and improving my craft while connecting with like-minded professionals who share the same passion for plastering. Additionally, I hope to one day have an apprentice to train and mentor, allowing me to contribute to the future of the trade.
