Lath and Plaster

A Trade Magazine for The Plastering Industry Run by Plasterers for Plasterers

Under the Spotlight with Keith Langton

Beginning my journey as a plastering apprentice in 1978 under the guidance of the exceptional Jonathan James in Rainham, Essex, I have been fortunate to work on some of the most prestigious and breathtaking projects, both internationally and at home. Along the way, I have had the privilege of collaborating with some truly remarkable individuals who have enriched my career and fueled my passion for the craft.

Even after 47 years in the trade, my enthusiasm remains as strong as ever. Today, my small company focuses primarily on heritage and conservation work, though we also provide bespoke plaster mouldings, hand-cast stone, and even contribute to film scenery when requested. Our dedication to craftsmanship is matched only by our commitment to passing on these skills to the next generation.

I am incredibly fortunate to have an amazing team, all of whom share a deep appreciation for the art of plastering. My wife affectionately calls it “playing plaster,” and with their unwavering support, I am able to dedicate more of my time to teaching and training. Winning the Saint-Gobain Trophy last year for contributions to training within the industry was a humbling recognition of this commitment.

While I still enjoy working with the tools when time allows, I also serve as an observation consultant for a leading GRG company in the UAE. Additionally, I am honoured to sit on the industry committee for the Worshipful Company of Plaisterers in London and was made a Freeman of London in recognition of my contributions to training—an achievement I hold with immense pride.  Looking ahead, my mission remains the same: to preserve and promote the time-honoured traditions of plastering while inspiring the next generation to take up this incredible craft
