Master Plasterer Mr Philip Gaches

Philip is the second of three generations of Gaches, with more than forty years of time served plastering. His father, Gordon started the business back in 1948, and Philip’s uncle, brother and brother-in-law have all worked together at various points since.

Philip started his apprenticeship in 1979 and attended Norwich City college under John Ford.

He completed his apprenticeship in 1982 but has continued his career path in plastering to this day and is now considered a Master by his contemporaries. More recently Philip has been awarded the certificate of Master Plasterer by the “New Guild for the Traditional Plastering Craft”.

Philip has been in charge of the family business since 1987. he is respected for the quality of his work throughout the UK and Europe.  His work adorns some of our most treasured Royal Palaces and his knowledge is in demand amongst craft professionals around the world.

Philip is a passionate advocate of the timeless beauty of lime and decorative plasterwork

The foundation stone of the business is something Mr Gaches often said
“we must always strive to do everything to the highest standard possible”. We pride ourselves on our focus on the personal handmade nature of our work which is at the core of the business.

Philip is now joined on site by his two sons, William H Gaches and Jude M Gaches, both are apprenticed to Philip making it 3 generations of the same family and ensuring the future of the family business.

Philip has travelled in Asia teaching in Yangon in 2013 and 2015. Later in 2019 Philip travelled to Afghanistan in order to assist with the setting up of training in Kabul.

Philip continues to make a contribution to keeping the art alive by offering courses in traditional plastering.

Indeed, for the last thirty years he has taught for organisations ranging from local authorities to the Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings.
