Reviving Norfolk Craft Heritage: A Pargetting Journey

Since returning from my travels in Romania, I’ve been back in Norfolk putting the finishing touches on this project — completing the final section of lime plastering and adding the last piece of pargetting work. The owners requested something special for the gable end of their cottage, so I created a circular oak leaf frame surrounding a pair of lively boxing hares. While I was away, the owners pressed ahead with limewashing the cottage, having finally settled on a colour after testing several pigments on sample boards I’d prepared.

I’m really pleased with how this final panel turned out — the texture, detail, and character feel just right. It’s always satisfying to see a design come together, especially one that blends traditional craftsmanship with the personality of the clients and their home. Can’t wait to see it fully limewashed so the plasterwork and the hares really pop against the newly coloured walls.

This project has been a real labour of love, and it’s great to share a piece of Norfolk craft heritage with the community. Huge thanks to everyone who’s been following along with the updates and sending encouragement — it’s been fantastic to hear from people who value keeping pargetting traditions alive. Seeing the positive response online reminds me why I do what I do.
