Plaster Support Manager at British Gypsum
I was a typical lad and I hated school. The time came to leave and I’d no idea what to do. Someone mentioned plastering in a careers meeting and I knew of two apprentices so I thought if they can do it I can do it.
August 8th 1978 was my start date with Tommy “The Trog” Wilson. He was a great plasterer, not sure how he had the time smoking 80 cigs a day.
I served my indentured apprenticeship, I was the student of the course and gained the Advanced Craft Certificate.
When I was doing my apprenticeship I thought one day I want to be a lecturer, which I eventually achieved.
Whilst I was lecturing I met some British Gypsum staff and I thought it would be good to work for BG, I achieved that as well.
I really do count myself as one lucky person, other terms are more applicable but not appropriate for here.
Plastering is physically demanding but the only thing that stops you is you, oh and not being lucky.
