Christopher Kelly, owner of C A Kelly, has dedicated over three decades to the plastering trade. His journey began while still at school, when a work experience placement with local council joiners unexpectedly led to an apprenticeship opportunity. At the time, Christopher admits, he had no idea what a plasterer did, but the craft quickly became his passion.

Leaving school at 16, he began his four-year apprenticeship with Aberdeenshire Council under the guidance of his journeyman, Bill Reid. Alongside his on-site training, Christopher attended Kingsway Technical College in Dundee, where Bobby Scott was his lecturer. His dedication and skill earned him an SVQ Level 3 in plastering, cementing the foundations of his long career.

Now with 32 years of experience, Christopher works as a sole trader in collaboration with another skilled sole trader, John Blair.

The two have maintained a strong working partnership for nearly 20 years, combining their expertise to deliver high-quality results. While Christopher’s main specialist skill is in-situ cornice repair, he also operates a small workshop where he produces fibrous plasterwork, creates small-scale cornices, and undertakes detailed casting projects.

Although he does not currently employ apprentices, Christopher has a strong desire to one day pass on his knowledge of ornamental plasterwork to the next generation of local tradespeople.

His craftsmanship can be seen on his Facebook page and through the joint website he shares with John, where examples of their work highlight the artistry and precision that define his career.
