From a young age, I was surrounded by the world of heritage and craftsmanship. My parents ran a conservation company based in Bristol, working on numerous historic buildings and churches across the South West. It was through watching my father’s meticulous approach to preserving these remarkable structures that I found my inspiration. I wanted to be a part of that legacy, and training as a plasterer felt like a natural path to follow in his footsteps and contribute to the family tradition.
I formally began my plastering journey in 1996, enrolling in a course in Bristol. However, I had already spent countless weekends and holidays on site with my dad, gaining hands-on experience from a young age. My training took place at Brunel Technical College, Bristol, where I studied and achieved NVQ Level 1 and 2 qualifications in plastering by 1997. My commitment to the craft and dedication to traditional methods were recognised when I was honoured with the title of Master Plasterer by The Worshipful Company of Plaisterers in March 2025.
Now with 29 years in the trade, I’ve developed a deep passion for preserving traditional plastering techniques. I specialise in all areas of traditional plasterwork, both plain and decorative, with a particular focus on running in situ using natural cement. This expertise allows me to bring authenticity and quality to heritage and conservation projects across Cornwall and the wider South West.
As a strong believer in passing down skills, I currently employ and mentor apprentices—one of whom recently qualified and continues to work alongside me. It’s incredibly rewarding to help nurture the next generation of plasterers and keep traditional methods alive.
