It was a warm summer evening. The cadets from 282 East Ham Air Cadets sat outside in neat rows. They were ready to listen and learn. Some very special guests came to talk to them. The talks were planned by OC Michael Shirley and the Civilian Committee.

The first speaker was Ali. He talked about how he had a hard time in school but worked hard to change. Now, he is a CAD (Computer Aided Design) engineer. He works for a big company called Raytheon. He travels to many places and works on secret projects. Ali showed that even if school is hard, you can still do well.
Next came Natasha. She is a junior barrister. That means she works in law and helps people in court. She talked about the hard work it took to become a lawyer. Natasha explained how she kept going even when it was tough. She also helps lead another Air Cadet group – 241 Squadron – just like Ali.
Femi, an international architect, spoke after her. He designs big buildings in different countries. Femi explained how he became an architect and what skills you need to learn. He also works with RIBA – the Royal Institute of British Architects – to help more people from different backgrounds become architects.
Then, Mary Havana Little spoke to the cadets. She is a skilled plasterer. That means she works with walls and designs. She even works on film sets. Some of her plaster work has been in Netflix movies! She also uses social media to show her work online. Mary came all the way from Windsor to be there, which was very kind.

Next was James from 296 Squadron. He works at British Airways and helps move aircraft. He used to carry bags, but now he checks planes before they fly. He also tells pilots when to go or stop. His job is hard when the weather is bad, but he loves working with planes.
The last speaker was Bob Naeem. He is an electrical engineer. He used to be the Officer Commanding at 282 Squadron. He spoke about working with power and electricity. Bob also talked about wind and solar power, which are important for our future.
The cadets listened carefully to each speaker. They asked great questions. Many speakers had been Air Cadets before. They said the Air Cadets helped them learn useful skills. These skills helped them get jobs and do well in life.
The evening showed how 282 Cadets is a great place to grow. It helps young people become strong, smart, and ready for the future. It was a night to remember!
