The Craft Careers Day at Lancashire Cricket Club in Manchester buzzed with excitement, curiosity, and plenty of hands-on action. Students gathered to watch and enthusiastically jump into live demonstrations led by Keith and Dale.
Eager to work with real tools and pick up new techniques, students paid close attention as the Master Plasterers Mr Keith Langton from the Worshipful Company of Plaisterers showcased a range of traditional plastering skills. Mr Dale Macchiarelli a Lecturer from Dudley College also took time to walk them through the different training routes and career pathways available across the craft sector.

Throughout the day, students rotated between activities, discovering the precision and creativity behind quality plasterwork. They tried their hand at running moulds, crafting decorative patterns, and working with time-honoured materials. Mentors shared valuable insights from their own careers and encouraged students to keep practising. Many left with a new appreciation for how satisfying and meaningful hands-on work can be.
As the sessions continued, students commented on just how artistic and varied plasterwork really is. They learned that these traditional skills play a vital role not only in heritage restoration, but also in modern construction and bespoke design projects. Industry partners were also present to answer questions about courses, apprenticeships, and future job opportunities.

By the end of the event, students walked away inspired — equipped with new skills, renewed enthusiasm, and a much clearer picture of where a career in craft could lead them.
