Andrew “Andy” Maguire is a highly skilled master plasterer with over 35 years of experience in traditional and modern plastering techniques. Beginning his apprenticeship at the age of 16 under the guidance of his father-in-law, renowned craftsman John Ward, Andy developed a deep respect for heritage trades and traditional craftsmanship. John’s mentorship shaped not only Andy’s technical abilities but also his strong work ethic and passion for lifelong learning.
Trained in the United Kingdom, Andy honed his craft working alongside some of the industry’s most respected plastering professionals. Today, he operates Maguire and Son’s, a family-run business based on Vancouver Island, Canada. The company specializes in both residential and commercial projects, offering expertise in ceilings, walls, flat work, and the use of modern and traditional materials. Their workshop produces custom mouldings and replicates historical designs for both interior and exterior applications.
Andy is especially proud of his team’s work on the restoration of Victoria High School in British Columbia. This large-scale heritage project spanned two years and involved plastering exposed brick walls and producing custom moulds on-site for installation. The project stands as a testament to Andy’s dedication to preserving historic craftsmanship.
Committed to passing on his knowledge, Andy actively mentors fellow tradespeople and has been training his son in the craft for over five years. He also shares his expertise through his popular YouTube channel, “Get Plastered with Andy,” where he provides step-by-step tutorials on traditional plastering techniques, including cornice work, ceiling roses, and mould replication. His channel has quickly gained a loyal following from viewers around the world who are eager to learn and appreciate heritage craftsmanship.
